11 Aug

So I was determined to find something to post today that would encapsulate both my love for myself and the fact that this blog is supposed to be about books. I settled on some photos of my trip with my parents a couple weeks ago to the book Ark at the V&A, as part of their small spaces exhibition.

It's nifty.

I think I'm pretty nifty, too.

Stealing books was frowned upon.

The first birthday present I received this year was also book related: a copy of The Blue Castle by L.M. Montgomery (alas, not the old McClelland and Stewart edition) from one of my sisters, which I’ve written about here before. I can’t wait to yet again read about mean old Cousin Stickles and purple pills from Montreal and moonlight on Lake Mistawis. It’s the book version of Death by Chocolate.

Housekeeping update: And if you want a chance to win a SIGNED copy of Boxer, Beetle by Ned Beauman, you can still leave a wacky Wikipedia entry here, until end of day Friday.

The book Ark looks incredibly nifty. I want one!

I wish you a very Happy Birthday and hope it is filled with all good things, but mostly books and cake and balloons.

  3. Happy birthday, Lija! The arc photos are great; I hope to fit a visit in before it finishes later this month.

I haven’t read The Blue Castle but a copy I managed to procure arrived yesterday – so far today you are the second person to mention the book, which seems quite serendipitous!

You’ll love it. It’s the ultimate rainy day read (kind of perfect for today, actually…).

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! The Ark is amazing, isn’t it? It’s right below my office and I have gone in many times. I may also have left with some extra books in my bag on occasion. ;)

Exciting about The Blue Castle! I read it thanks to you!

Thanks so much for all of the birthday wishes, everyone! Surprisingly, I haven’t received any other bookish presents yet (just a long-awaited box set of My So Called Life), but I’ll keep you updated. I might just have to go out and buy some for myself (no book buying ban here…)

Just one more thank you for the birthday attention, and thanks to the first-time commenters. Should be able to get posting again this week now that the moving-flat fun has died down.

  18. Oh, this looks very cool. Might just go to check it out this weekend – have no plans for Sunday, and I do love the V&A.

Belated birthday wishes – hope the day was fantastic.
